Bath time...

Well the babies had their first baths today! We woke up this morning and two of the puppies were covered in poo! If any of you have ever experienced non-weaned puppy poo you will know it sticks like tar! Most of them were ok but typically the boys complained the most! As you can see they now have their eyes opened and the fawn boy took his first, very tentative, steps on all fours!

Feeding time at the zoo...

I took this video of the babies feeding yesterday and I thought I'd share! They certainly love to feed and if you have your sound turned up you may be able to hear the cute snuffly noises they make whilst sucking!

The life of a pug....

Well the puppies are now 8 days old and doing great! They have all put on about 1/3 of their body weight! Some of them are starting to show their personalities - one of the girls is very noisy! She likes to complain about everything and anything. The fawn boy is bossy - he likes to push the other puppies off mum and pick his own boob to feed off! The other fawn girl and very quiet and sweet. She likes to be held and cuddled and the black boy seems to be very calm and happy just to be sleeping or feeding (typical man if you ask me!).

The babies are here!

Well it finally happened! Jezabel had her babies! Jezzy's labour started at about 8:00pm monday night and she paced the house panting and whining all night. She finally started pushing at 5:00am and at 6:20am she delivered a beautiful fawn boy who weighed in at a chunky 203grams! At 7:01 she had a fawn girl which weighed 196grams and 31 minutes later she had puppy number three - a tiny black boy which weighed 174grams. I noticed that by this stage she was quite tired so I gave her a drink of water and she ate a few peices of chicken. At 8:17 she delivered another fawn girl which weighed 194grams.

The x-ray had showed five puppies so I knew she still had one more to go. After 40 minutes I started to think that something was wrong. She would only push occassionaly and she kept trying to sleep. I waited until it had been just over 90 minutes and still no puppy so I rang our vet and with the help of my friend Lisa we rushed Jezzy to our vet. Unfortunately, she delivered the puppy (a black girl) in the back seat of Lisa's car and despite the vets giving the puppy an injection to get her heart starting and doing CPR on her for some time she didnt make it. The vet said that the puppy was quite big and had probably got stuck in the birth canal.

The remaining four pups all have strong heart beats and lungs and were all a good size - despite being three to four days early!

I like 'em chunky... I like 'em round... I like 'em plumpy.... Well that's what Moto Moto says in Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xufDtcS1b4w). And on day 42 of 64 Jezabel is certainly on her way to having this as her theme song! She is having two meals a day at the moment but I'm sure she would be happy to have five! Chris took these pictures last night of her after dinner - excuse all the dog hair - Jax had just come for a cuddle and left his 'mark'.

The story of two pugs...

so this is the story of my two beloved pugs - Jax and Jezabel who rule our house and hearts. Jax was 2 on the 6 of October and Jezabel will be two on the 10th April. Here's some current pictures of them.
Jezabel is due to have a litter of puppies on the 10 April - on her birthday! So stay tuned for some gorgeous puppy pictures!
